INTERVIEW WITH MS. LINTANG
|
Transcript
On Saturday, 30th of April 2016, we interviewed Ms. Lintang. She is a professional dancer. We had a chance to meet her while she was practicing for a performance for an event called “The Latin Night”
We met her at the lobby lounge of Puri Denpasar Hotel in Jakarta. Her full name is Ms. Yulia Lintangkawuryan. She started learning to dance when she was only four years old. She initially learned traditional dances and then street dance, modern, hip-hop and house dance.
In 2009, she began her professional career in dancing. She thinks that dance is special for her because she can express her thoughts and feelings through it. Ms. Lintang also said that dance can give her a healthy life because of the energetic movements in dancing.
These are the questions we asked her during the interview:
Question: What are the different types of dances?
Answer: "There are actually no types of dance for me because it only comes to the genre and it depends on the emotions on what you are feeling."
Question: Which dance is most popular?
Answer: "For me, it depends on the environment, place and people who made it, because dance is one kind of a culture."
Question: Which one do you like the most? Why?
Answer: " It depends on how I want to express myself and the purpose of the dance itself."
Question: What makes dance an art?
Answer: "Dance is a different kind of expression and combining movements make something useful."
Question: What is the hardest part in dancing?
Answer: "The hardest part in dancing for me is the process itself. You have to make the dance move and try to be yourself while making it, and you don’t have to copy other people’s dance moves."
Question: How do our dances relate to our traditions?
Answer: "Dance is a part of a culture itself. The traditional dance is about the values of people from which it came from. For example, in Bali, their traditional dance has a lot of dynamic movements."
Question: What do you think are the benefits of dance? Can you name a few?
Answer: "The first thing is physical because you move a lot. Some people say that dancers are athletic people. In Indonesia there is a thing called dance spot, where you become more energetic than usual."
Question: How can dance help solve local and global issues?
Answer: Some people say that dancing is useless. But actually, dancing is one of the positive activities to do. It can fill your time and keep you healthy.
Question: How can dance change people’s emotions?
Answer: "For sure, it is just because of the emotions and you have to express it really well, you can get mad when people start to see you dancing and you can also be sad when people are not looking at you. Sometimes your emotions change into weird ways."
