Bali Exploration
We went to Bali on 15 March 2016 until 18 March 2016. We went to explore Bali and learn about the Balinese culture.
On the first day of the trip, we met in Soekarno Hatta airport to travel to Bali. We were greeted by our tour leaders, and we had lunch at a local restaurant. We went to Astina Art Gallery and learnt about the masks and their history. The famous mask maker Ida Bagus Anom gave a mask for each child to paint and decorate. He taught us basic designs which were good and simple since we were beginners. After that, we went to Tri Pusaka Dance. We learnt how to do Balinese dance. It was quite odd, but it was a good dance. We had dinner at a local restaurant. We checked in at Alaya Ubud hotel.
On the second day, we had breakfast at the hotel. We had a full day at Green Camp. It was a lot of fun. The activities were countless and very exciting. Green camp was a fun, eco-friendly place. We had physical activities and played lots of games. Most of their buildings were made from bamboo and grass. After we had dinner at a local restaurant, we went to Devdan Show Nusa Dua. The dancers danced skillfully and showed a good performance. Their performances were about Indonesian dances. It was very diverse for a performance.
On the third day, we went to Green Camp and had more fun. The activities were as fun as the previous day's activities. They also taught us how to create bamboo paper. We had lunch and went to Mepantigan Balinese Martial Arts. We played with mud. It was dirty, but it was fun. We learned some martial arts and learned how to mud wrestle. We went back to the hotel.
On the last day and fourth day, we had breakfast. We checked-out of the hotel. We went to Bali Cultural Centre. They showed many things about Bali. We went to the airport to travel back to Jakarta. That was a fun trip.
In-School Programme
On the first day of in-school program, we did a gamelan workshop and learnt about Indonesian culture. We watched a performance, played the gamelan and danced a traditional dance.
On the second day, we went to Setuabi Ceramics. We made ceramics out of a special clay. We also got a chance to see all the ceramics created by famous sculptors. After that, we went back to school and did a drama workshop. We had a lot of fun in that workshop. We learned the basics of acting. We were also taught how to execute facial expressions and body movements.
On the third day, we came to school at 2 o’clock, and we put our materials in basement 1. Then, we did martial arts training and prepared the materials and ingredients for our cooking activity. We also set up a tent. We told stories to each other and we ate satay, nasi goreng, cap cai, fried noodles and scrambled eggs. After that, we took a shower and we watched a movie called “Goose Bumps” on the 8th floor. After the movie, the boys went up to the 9th floor and slept, while the girls slept on the 8th floor.
On the last day, we packed our bags and went down to the 2nd floor to have breakfast in the cafeteria. We cooked sausages, bread with butter, boiled eggs and cereal. This experience was a blast !!
Global Jaya School Bintaro
On April 12, 2016, we went on a field trip to Global Jaya School Bintaro. They did lovely Papuan and modern dance performances in the school’s assembly hall. When the performance ended, we were told to follow our guides, they would bring us to the booths. Their transdisciplinary theme was “Where we are in place and time.” They had to invent a new product and they had to explain how it works and what is it for. We also got to rate their products. Their inventions were nice and really useful. They put much effort into this because their booths were decorated nicely, and they made practical inventions. They also had games there which added to the fun and excitement!
Sekolah Pelita Harapan
We went to SPH (Sekolah Pelita Harapan) to see their PYP exhibition. Their transdisciplinary theme for their PYP exhibition was “Where we are in place and time`qq]lpdxxuh ”. First, they gave us stick notes that had numbers on them so we can be split into groups depending on the number. After that, we went in a very big room where all the eight booths were. We sat on the chairs and watched their performance. Their performance was very interesting, and it had a lot of dancing and acting in it. We enjoyed it a lot. They did a great job! Once we were done watching, we went to their booths. If your number was eight, we should go to booth eight first .We moved in a clockwise direction, and we were only given 10 minutes to visit each booth. All their booths were great and were filled with information . Their booths taught us to really help save our earth. Their explanations really made us reflect and decide to stop doing the things that are killing the earth. So their PYP exhibition really helped us change. After that, we ate lunch and went back to school. We hope our PYP exhibition will be as good as theirs.
